The Challenge
Following many successful years as Just Italy, the restaurant was ready for a new chapter. The challenge was to introduce a new name and contemporary brand identity that reflected the restaurant’s evolution while reassuring loyal customers that the values they loved remained unchanged.
Although the name would change to Zero – Cucina Italiana, the ownership, chefs, team and passion for authentic Italian hospitality would remain the same.
Located in Mentone, Melbourne, an affluent beachside suburb, the restaurant serves local families and diners from surrounding bayside communities seeking authentic Italian cuisine in a stylish yet relaxed setting. The new brand needed to reflect the area’s contemporary lifestyle-sophisticated yet approachable, stylish yet welcoming, and authentic without pretension. Above all, it needed to celebrate authentic Italian cuisine made from scratch.
The Solution
Imaginitis created a complete brand identity centred around the philosophy ‘Cucina Italiana – fatta da zero’ (Italian cuisine, made from zero), celebrating authentic Italian cooking prepared from scratch using quality ingredients and traditional methods.
The identity was designed to balance Italian heritage with contemporary simplicity. Every element was crafted to communicate warmth, honesty, craftsmanship and understated sophistication.
The minimalist logo face combines elegant cursive typography with a refined, effortless flow that conveys confidence, authenticity and premium quality. The distinctive O becomes the brand’s signature device, subtly referencing the Italian flag through restrained green, white and red detailing, creating a memorable visual asset without relying on traditional clichés.
The result is a brand that feels modern-classic, fashionable and welcoming, positioning Zero as a destination for authentic Italian dining that is both stylish and accessible.
The Outcome
The rebrand successfully repositioned the restaurant with a distinctive identity that honoured its heritage while creating a fresh, contemporary presence. The new brand inspired confidence among existing customers, attracted new audiences and provided a refined platform for future growth.
